(ECNS) -- Cambodia and China marked the completion of the Mekong Kratie Friendship Bridge with a closure ceremony Monday, celebrating the latest infrastructure project under the Belt and Road Initiative in northeastern Cambodia to boost regional connectivity and trade.
Sun Chanthol, deputy prime minister and first vice president of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, presided over the ceremony to connect the final bridge segment, with the participation of Peng Ponea, minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, and other representatives.

The 1,761-meter-long bridge, alongside a 31.69-kilometer connecting road, was built by Shanghai Construction Group and funded through a $100 million low-interest loan from China.
Since its groundbreaking on Jan. 2, 2023, presided over by then Cambodian Prime Minister and current President of the Senate Hun Sen, the project has progressed smoothly.
