(ECNS) -- An immigration inspection station in East China announced Monday that it dismantled a maritime cross-border smuggling gang overnight, with 16 suspects arrested and over 170 metric tons of smuggled frozen goods worth more than 15 million yuan (about $2 million) seized.
The joint operation took place at the Nibong Immigration Inspection Station early Friday. More than 60 officers launched simultaneous sea and land actions. One team intercepted the smuggling vessel at its docking point, while another team apprehended suspects who were dealing with goods onshore.
Authorities seized over 170 metric tons of smuggled frozen products, including beef tripe, along with one vessel, seven trucks, and two cranes. Criminal coercive measures have been taken against the suspects, and the case is under further investigation.
