Guangzhou shipyard delivers 7,000-car PCTC

A new dual-fuel pure car truck carrier (PCTC) was delivered for use on Wednesday in Guangzhou's Nansha district, Guangdong province, providing new guarantee capabilities for Chinese car brands to go global.

The 7,000-vehicle PCTC, built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for BYD Group, was named BYD Zhengzhou in a naming ceremony at the GSI shipyard, located at the mouth of the Pearl River.

The BYD Zhengzhou is 199.9 meters long and has a molded width of 38 meters. The vessel can reach a speed of 18.5 knots, equivalent to about 35 kilometers per hour, said a statement released by GSI on Wednesday. It adopts an LNG (liquefied natural gas) dual-fuel propulsion system and is equipped with a permanent magnet shaft generator.

With various energy-saving devices and anti-fouling paint, it is a green, intelligent, environmentally friendly, and efficient automobile transport vessel, according to the statement.

BYD Zhengzhou is the second 7,000-vehicle PCTC GSI built for BYD Group.

BYD Hefei, which was delivered for use in January, has been put into operation, playing a role in promoting China's domestic automobile export transportation, according to the statement.

GSI has attracted nearly 40 orders for constructing PCTCs, maintaining a global leading position in this niche market.

Thus far, GSI has built and delivered seventeen 7,000-vehicle LNG dual-fuel PCTCs and one 8,600-vehicle LNG dual-fuel PCTC, with a total of 127,600 vehicle transport spaces, the statement said.

GSI, a major shipbuilding base in the southern Chinese region, is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp and a Shanghai Stock Exchange-listed company.
