(ECNS) -- Airbus and Xi'an Aircraft International (Tianjin) Corporation (XAT), a subsidiary of AVIC, launched fuselage system assembly for the A321 aircraft in China on Tuesday, marking the first time this model has been assembled in the country.
The front and rear fuselages of the first A321 aircraft to undergo assembly in China arrived at Tianjin Port by sea in early July and were transferred to the Tianjin plant. In approximately 50 working days, the Airbus team will work closely with the plant to complete a series of processes, including factory inspection, isolation installation, and bracket installation.
It is expected that the finished fuselage will be delivered to the Airbus Tianjin A320 series aircraft final assembly line for final assembly in October this year.
The two companies have previously collaborated on A320 fuselage systems, establishing a strong partnership.
By June 2025, XAT had successfully delivered 104 A320 fuselages to the Airbus Tianjin assembly line. At the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow, Airbus signed an agreement with AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry Group to expand their collaboration, extending from the A320 to the A321 fuselage system assembly.
The A321 is the flagship model in Airbus' new generation single-aisle aircraft. Since 2024, about 40% of the A320 series aircraft delivered by Airbus Tianjin are A321 models.
In the future, Airbus will continue upholding its development philosophy of "In China, For China," further expanding its industrial footprint in the country and promoting progress across the entire aviation industry chain, the company said.
