China has called on the United States to fully abandon its erroneous practice of unilaterally imposing additional tariffs, said the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference, spokesperson He Yongqian said China has noted the ruling of the U.S. Court of International Trade on Wednesday, which found that the U.S. government's global, retaliatory and so-called "fentanyl" tariffs were illegal and ordered their withdrawal and permanent cessation.
He emphasized that China has always maintained that there are no winners in trade wars and that protectionism ultimately leads nowhere. Since the implementation of these unilateral tariffs, the U.S. has failed to resolve any of its own issues.
"Instead, these measures have seriously disrupted the international economic and trade order and significantly interfered with business operations and consumption activities," she added.
The Ministry of Commerce further stressed that the tariffs have harmed others without bringing any benefit to the U.S. itself and have triggered significant domestic opposition within the country.
