(ECNS) -- Schools across Fuzhou City in Fujian Province were closed on Wednesday as Typhoon Danas brought torrential rains and raised flood risks across southeastern China, according to local authorities.
Danas, the fourth typhoon of the year, made its third landfall in the coastal area of Rui'an City in Zhejiang Province late Tuesday, local authorities confirmed. Heavy to torrential rain will hit the city on Wednesday, with some areas seeing extremely heavy downpours.
"To ensure the safety of teachers and students, all educational activities will be suspended for one day," the Fuzhou Municipal Education Bureau said Tuesday night.
China's National Meteorological Center renewed its blue alert for typhoons early Wednesday, forecasting torrential rains across coastal areas in eastern and southern Fujian Province and eastern Guangdong Province.
In response to the storm's growing impact, China's Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level-IV emergency response to flooding in Guangdong on Wednesday. The ministry has already maintained a Level-IV alert in place for Zhejiang, Fujian, Chongqing, and Sichuan provinces.
