No winners in a trade war or tariff war: FM

(ECNS) -- There are no winners in a trade war or tariff war. Protectionism hurts everyone's interests, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

Mao made the remarks after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25 percent tariffs on imports from Japan and the Republic of Korea, beginning Aug. 1.

In his letters addressed to the leaders of the two countries, Trump said the new tariffs will be separate from all other sectoral tariffs.
