(ECNS) -- China and the U.S. should work together to find solutions to trade issues through equal consultations, said Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), at a press conference on Tuesday held in Beijing ahead of the opening of its annual session.
The spokesperson pointed out that the essence of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
Over the 46 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S., bilateral trade volume has increased by more than 200 times and two-way investment stock has reached approximately $250 billion, Lou noted.
“This has not only brought tangible benefits to both peoples but has also significantly contributed to global economic development,” he said.
Lou stressed that the unilateral imposition of tariffs by the U.S. side violates World Trade Organization rules and disrupts the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
“We hope the U.S. will work with China to meet each other halfway and find solutions to trade issues through equal consultations,” he added.
