2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. “This war showed us just how dangerous extremism can be,” said Professor Linjie Chou Zanadu of the European Center for Peace and Development, University for Peace (UN), while reflecting upon the lessons for the human society from the WWII in an exclusive interview with China News Network.
He warns that today’s global system is increasingly threatened by rising extremism and nationalism.
He calls for renewed commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the respect for the principle of equal rights and the self-determination of the peoples, to build a more peaceful, inclusive, and respectful international order.
Professor Chou also underscores that the victory in WWII could not have been achieved without the contributions of non-Western Allied powers such as China, urging younger generations in Europe to seek historical truth and work toward a shared future. (Lin Zhuowei)
