China on Tuesday launched the Shenzhou-16 manned spaceship, sending three astronauts to its space station combination for a five-month mission.
When China revealed the crew of its Shenzhou-16 mission on Monday, many were surprised to find that, for the first time, an engineer was among those flying to the nation's space station.
Flight engineer Zhu Yangzhu's parents watched the press conference on TV on Monday in Pei County, east China's Jiangsu Province.
Zhu Gengde, Zhu's father said that his son dreamed of becoming an astronaut when he was a child. He is overjoyed that his son's more than 10 years of hard work has finally paid off.
Zhu's mother told a CNS reporter that Zhu was fond of studying and learning when he was a child, and would tackle any difficult question he met. "He can rest assured that we will look after the family affairs and our own health," she added.
"Zhu is an honest and reliable person. He was a promising child, and is still of great promise," Hou Fengying, a neighbor of Zhu said.
Liu Jinbao, a teacher of Haozhai Middle School in Pei County remarked that Zhu was a student outstanding in both morality and learning. "He is composed and thinks for himself," Lin said, "Congratulations on him. I wish him a successful mission and a triumphant return."
Yan Haijun, principal of Pei County Middle School felt proud of being Zhu's high school mathematics teacher. "He is the pride and joy of his hometown and his alma mater, as well as a talented leader," he added.
