(ECNS) -- China's first museum on antique book repair has just opened in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The 1,100-square-meter facility displays 500 artifacts.

It allows the public to better understand the craft's complicated procedures.

It also features a demonstration zone for visitors to view the process, which includes nearly 20 steps from making glue to bookbinding.

Luckily, the endangered craft has attracted young successors.

Li Yanjun, the youngest restorer in the museum, said she was motivated by the documentary Masters in the Forbidden City.

The documentary featuring the work of Palace Museum relic restorers became a surprise online hit after it aired in 2016.

It is estimated China has about 50 million antique books, among which the foremost 20 million have been protected, leaving a daunting task for book repairers.
