(ECNS) -- Typhoon Mangkhut, dubbed the "king of storms" by Chinese meteorologists, has wrecked havoc in south China.
Wind speed reached up to a record 256 km/h by Sunday noon in Hong Kong. More than 880 flights were canceled. Services of buses, trams and ferries were also halt for safety concerns.
The breaking of windows and power lines were also reported. A Sierra Leone-registered cargo ship was stranded after losing power and being pushed ashore by strong winds near Haimen Bay in Shantou, Fujian Province.
Local authorities sent helicopters to bring 9 crew members to safety. Injuries were also reported after trees were blown down or uprooted, falling onto passengers and vehicles.
