China's education and healthcare authorities have released a series of measures to urge schools in the country to enhance education work on preventing HIV/AIDS.
Schools should include HIV prevention education in their education plan, according to a notice released jointly by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Health Commission recently, the MOE posted on its website Thursday.
Medical and normal colleges should add contents of comprehensive prevention knowledge on HIV in their education plan.
Disease prevention and control institutes should further provide key information and alarming cases on HIV prevention to teenage students, in order to raise students' ability to prevent HIV and to support schools on related education.
Local institutes are also asked to strengthen contacts with schools, and learn about the channels and causes of students infected with HIV.
Schools should use social media to promote healthcare knowledge through real cases, the notice demanded.
Meanwhile, the notice asked schools to include marital education into high school and professional schools, to strengthen students' sense of respect, trust and responsibility and to help them form a civilized and healthy view on marriage and relationships.
The MOE and National Health Commission will send experts to provide direction on HIV prevention education and professional consultation.
About 3,000 teenage and youth students aged 15 to 25 are infected with AIDS every year in China, according to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention on July 30, the China Youth Daily reported.
According to a joint evaluation by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, UNAIDS and the World Health Organization, there are around 1.25 million people living with HIV/AIDS in China, and 80,000 newly-infected people every year, the Xinhua News Agency reported in November 2018.
