(ECNS) -- China has successfully tested new generation technology on high-throughput ground-to-satellite data transmission, according to the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on Monday.
By simulating satellite data transmission on the ground, scientists successfully achieved a maximum data rate of 2,100 megabits per second in a single-channel X-band satellite-to-ground communication. This is an increase of 75% in microwave communication data rates, making it the highest single-channel X-band satellite-to-ground data rate currently achieved in China.
The experiment was carried out at the Lijiang Station of the China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station (RSGS) in three phases, said Zhang Yumeng, project leader of the experiment and senior engineer at the Institute of Aerospace Information, CAS.
Breakthroughs have been achieved in a series of key technologies, marking the first time that deep neural network models were integrated into the core algorithms of satellite data reception modems. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the experiment empowered satellite-to-ground data transmission and provided a cost-effective technical solution to address bottlenecks in China's related communications, Zhang added.
According to Huang Peng, a research fellow and director of the RSGS under the AIR, the test proved a significant increase in satellite-to-ground data transmission rates by upgrading the technical capabilities of key ground system components like modems.
