Commenting on so-called Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act being passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated on Wednesday that Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair, which brooks no foreign interference.
"Certain members of the U.S. Congress are rehashing the defunct Taiwan-related bill, seriously violating the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués. We firmly oppose this," Zhu said.
The U.S. House of Representatives on Monday local time passed the so-called Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act which demands that the U.S. government support Taiwan's accession to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), participation in economic surveillance, access to technical assistance, and eligibility for personnel to hold positions at the IMF.
"We urge the U.S. side to cease advancing negative Taiwan-related legislation and stop sending any wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces," Zhu stated.
The spokesperson emphasized, it must be pointed out that the IMF is a specialized agency of the United Nations, and only sovereign states are eligible to join. Taiwan, as part of China, has no right to participate.
