Taiwan is China's Taiwan and the Taiwan question is China's domestic affairs, said China's State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe during a video speech at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting on Wednesday, noting that China appreciates the more than 170 countries and international organizations that support China's condemnation of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan island earlier this month.
Wei made the speech via video link at a meeting of defense ministers of the SCO member states, during which he also said that China strongly opposes and condemns Pelosi's visit. China's stance on this issue has won support and understanding from more than 170 countries and international organizations, and China appreciates such gesture.
Wei noted that international society is facing rare challenges, and it is high time for countries to unit together to overcome these obstacles. China is willing to join hands with other countries to maintain international peace and justice, Wei said.
He also said that the SCO has set an example of cooperation between countries of different civilizations and systems. Wei also urged defense departments of member states to enhance cooperation, and to jointly uphold common security.
