Hebei craftsman recreates 100 kinds of ancient Chinese weapons

(ECNS) -- A craftsman in Hebei Province has reproduced about 100 types of ancient Chinese weapons during the past 10 years.

Influenced by his grandfather who is a blacksmith, coupled with the basic skills of painting, carpentry and martial arts, 50-year-old Wang Erbing has gradually mastered the craft.

Wang began to recreate ancient weapons in 2018. His first sword broke in two when bent, while the second failed to recover its original shape. After countless experiments, he finally mastered the craft.

“High elasticity is necessary for reproducing ancient weapons -- I’ve improved the traditional technique of quenching. The new technique enables swords to be bent 90 degrees,” said Wang.

Wang has made breakthroughs in replicating ancient weapon. His craft was included in the intangible cultural heritage list of Shenzhou City, Hebei Province, in 2022.
