Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), said on Tuesday that tackling climate change needs firm commitment and continued actions, not empty slogans.
Zhang wrote on Twitter that in addressing climate change, what the world doesn't need are empty slogans, ever-changing policies, luxury motorcades and entourage, or irresponsibly exposing numerous people to infection.
He said the Chinese leader addressed the World Leaders Summit at the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to share China's solution and the Chinese delegation attended the meeting in person.
China has announced its carbon peak and neutrality targets and released its action plan and policies, and the country's achievements are widely recognized, he said.
"China has been earnestly supporting #ClimateAction. We are not the one who withdrew from the #ParisAgreement," he wrote on Twitter.
Noting that the U.S. has backpedaled its climate policies many times, he urged the U.S. to stop shifting blame, shoulder responsibility and take concrete actions.
According to media reports, U.S. President Joe Biden used an 85-vehicle motorcade to cruise through Rome ahead of the COP26 climate summit.
