China's National Ethnic Affairs Commission Wednesday expressed firm opposition to and strong condemnation of the passing of a bill on Xinjiang-related issues by the U.S. House of Representatives.
The passing of the so-called "Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019," despite China's strong opposition and stern representation, constituted gross interference in China's internal affairs and blatantly trampled on basic norms governing international relations, the commission said in a statement.
The statement said that the bill was filled with bias against the Chinese government's Xinjiang policies, discredited Xinjiang's development achievements, and ignored the true feelings of people in Xinjiang.
Xinjiang has long been an inseparable part of Chinese territory and its affairs are purely China's internal affairs that allow no foreign interference, said the statement.
For a long time, some U.S. politicians have turned a blind eye to the atrocities committed by the separatist, extremist and terrorist forces in Xinjiang, and shown no concern for the personal safety of the people of all ethnic groups facing threats of violence and terrorism in Xinjiang. Yet they are now trying to support the "three evil forces" through the so-called "Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019," it read.
"This fully exposes the malicious intentions of some politicians and anti-China forces in the United States to contain and split China under the pretext of the so-called 'Xinjiang issue'," the statement said.
The statement reiterated that Xinjiang is part of China and the Uygur ethnic group is part of the Chinese nation. "Any attempt to sow discord among various ethnic groups in China and contain China's development is doomed to fail."
The will of the Chinese people of all ethnic groups to safeguard national unity and ethnic solidarity is rock-solid, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable, the statement said.
It urged the United States to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and Xinjiang's affairs before it's too late.
