On Thursday, Republic of Korea (ROK) Supreme Court overturned part of an original ruling on ousted President Park Geun-hye for her influence-peddling case and sent the case back to the lower court for review, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Park, who was removed from office in 2017 over an influence-peddling scandal involving her longtime friend Choi Soon-sil, was convicted of 16 corruption counts that include bribery, abuse of power, and coercion.
In April 2018, Park was sentenced to 24 years in prison and a fine of 18 billion won (17 million U.S. dollars).
In August of the same year, the second verdict in Park's case sentenced her to 25 years in prison and a 20-billion-won (18 million U.S. dollars) fine.
