The Fujian Coast Guard conducted routine law enforcement patrols on Monday in waters near Jinmen, an island off the coast of Fujian province, a spokesman for the China Coast Guard said.
Zhu Anqing, spokesman for the coast guard's East China Sea bureau, said in a news release that since June, the Fujian Coast Guard has organized fleets to step up law enforcement patrols in the waters near Jinmen.
The operation is part of a broader law enforcement campaign tied to the summer fishing moratorium and aims to strengthen control over the surrounding sea areas, Zhu said.
The patrols are intended to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese fishermen, including those from Taiwan, and to protect their lives and property, he said. The efforts also aim to maintain normal navigation and operational order in the waters between Xiamen and Jinmen.
