Short-distance travel and local tours remain the mainstream choice during the holiday period. A blend of micro-vacations and traditional cultural experiences is attracting growing interest among tourists. Data shows that bookings for nearby tours during this year's Dragon Boat Festival have increased by 23% year-on-year, while online searches related to folk culture experiences have surged by 50%.
To mark the festival, regions across the country are actively exploring local traditions and transforming them into engaging tourist experiences, adding cultural appeal to their destinations.
In Pingnan County of Fujian Province, visitors are weaving colorful threads and tasting local specialties including egg tea, a traditional beverage symbolizing health and peace. In Miluo, Hunan Province, a series of events centered on dragon boat culture—including making ox-horn-shaped rice dumplings and holding dragon boat races—is stimulating local tourism. The number of tourist visits here has reached 500,000, up 55% year-on-year.
In Zigui County, Hubei Province, households are hanging mugwort, crafting fragrant sachets, and wrapping rice dumplings to commemorate historical figures and express hopes for a better life.
With the holiday overlapping Children's Day, family-friendly destinations like amusement parks are witnessing rising popularity. Activities that encourage outdoor exploration and learning are particularly favored by parent-child travelers.
