(ECNS) — The United States has unreasonably revoked Chinese students' visas under the pretext of ideology and national security, drawing firm opposition from China, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a media query.
Mao said the move by the U.S. side seriously undermines the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students and disrupts normal people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
"China has lodged solemn representations with the U.S.," she noted.
"This political and discriminatory act has once again exposed the hypocrisy of the so-called freedom and openness the U.S. claims, and will only further damage its international image and national credibility," Mao said.
