(ECNS) -- A total of 68 domestically-made vehicles were loaded onto the ship “Qingdao” at the Nansha Port in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on Saturday for export to Brazil, marking the introduction of innovative "foldable" vehicle transportation technology in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Huang Xiansheng, captain of the ship, explained that each foldable car frame serves as a mobile multi-level garage, allowing customers to enjoy flexible shipping services. “We've already received orders for nearly 1,000 vehicles across the next two voyages from domestic automakers.”
Compared to traditional ro-ro ship transportation, this new technology provides greater flexibility, catering to small-batch and customized demands while supporting order collection at different ports and multi-route connections.
Nansha is developing an integrated "port-factory" automotive ecosystem. According to Chen He from the Nansha Border Checkpoint, border inspection services have been integrated into the car export chain, ensuring vehicles can enter the storage yard 72 hours before ship arrival.
By collaborating with inspection agencies and port companies, vehicle and personnel information verification has been streamlined to make clearance smooth, Chen said.
Shen Jiayu, business development manager at Guangzhou Port Nansha Port Co., Ltd., highlighted that coordinated port resources enable seamless integration from in-port container loading to ship loading. This approach helps domestic automakers and shipping companies attract orders from emerging markets in South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East through small-batch container shipping, expanding the economic reach of China's auto exports.
