(ECNS) - Attacking a bus driver or other acts that interfere with bus operation will be regarded as a crime and be liable to charges under criminal law, according to a new guideline released by the Work Safety Committee of the State Council.?
In a circular, the committee introduced new measures following a fight between a passenger and a bus driver that caused a bus to plunge into the Yangtze River in Chongqing on Oct. 28.?
Authorities said measures to ensure safe operation of buses include better safety for drivers such as an isolated driver’s area and protective facilities.?
Buses running on key routes need to have safety personnel onboard while drivers need to receive psychological and behavioral training so they can be better prepared for emergencies, said the circular.?
The committee also called for better maintenance of bridges and installation of anti-collision guardrails to address safety hazards. For bridges that are difficult to transform, more monitoring of vehicles is needed.?
Improvements in the emergency rescue system, strengthened risk analysis and emergency drills where also urged.
