Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam said on Wednesday that Hong Kong must cooperate with other cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to push for the development of innovation and technology.
Addressing a ceremony of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Lam stressed the significance of technological cooperation between Hong Kong and its neighboring city Shenzhen to building the Greater Bay Area into a global innovation hub.
She in particular cited the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park in the Lok Ma Chau Loop.
After the project completes in phases from 2024, its advantage under "one country, two systems" will be given to full play and the talents of both sides will have more job opportunities, Lam said.
Lam said Hong Kong's innovation and technology development has benefited from the support of the central government over the past years and will continue to prosper as more favorable policies are in the pipeline under the 14th Five-Year Plan for national social and economic development.
With national security well protected, Hong Kong will better integrate into the national landscape, make full use of its unique advantage and achieve new progress in innovation and technology, she said.
Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) of the HKSAR government co-organized a webinar with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
Jimmy Chiang, associate director-general of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, said Hong Kong is committed to promoting IT development, with a special focus on R&D, infrastructure, a tech talent pool, investment funding and other support measures to improve the ecosystem for startups.
Russian companies can leverage Hong Kong's sophisticated technology ecosystem to meet the growing demand for digital marketing and technology-related services in the mainland, he said.
