Chancay-Shanghai shipping route delivers goods worth $83.73 mln in over two months

(ECNS) -- The Chancay-Shanghai shipping route, jointly built by Peru and China under the Belt and Road Initiative, had handled 22,000 metric tons of goods worth 610 million yuan (about $83.73 million) by the end of February, just over two months after its launch, according to Shanghai Customs.

The route now operates two regular weekly departures between Chancay Port and Shanghai Port, serving major Chinese ports such as Ningbo, Qingdao, Dalian, and Xiamen.

Since the direct line was launched, shipping time from Peru to China has dropped from over a month to 23 days, reducing logistics costs by more than 20 percent.

Imports and exports between Chancay and Shanghai totaled 4.68 billion yuan in the first month of December 2024, marking 46.1 percent yea-on-year increase, according to Shanghai Customs.

The total value of imports and exports between Shanghai and Peru reached 51.5 billion yuan in 2024, up 23 percent year-on-year.
