Guijie street parking problem

Illegal parking sites still thrive along some streets, including Guijie Street, the famous restaurant row, even after authorities cracked down on illegal parking lots, the Beijing Daily reported.

People wearing fake uniforms pose as parking fee collectors, targeting drivers who go there to dine. There are a total of 79 authorized parking spots on Guijie Street, but more than 600 automobiles have been spotted parked along the streets.

The problem is blamed on the fact that demand for parking spots outstrips supply as well as the lack of enforcement. Transportation authorities said that QR codes may be used to help people identify genuine parking fee collectors.
