China hope that Japan "could learn from history, stick to the path of peaceful development, act with prudence on military and security policies, and do more things that contribute to regional peace and stability," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei told a news briefing on March 29, 2016.
He was asked about the enactment of the controversial Japanese new military laws, which allow Japanese troops to fight on foreign soil for the first time since the end of WWII.
The Japanese security laws, which were passed last September after chaotic scenes in parliament, enabled Japan to exercise its so-called "collective self-defense" in overseas conflicts.
"Due to history reasons, Japan's Asian neighbors and the international community have been closely following Japan's moves in military and security fields," said Hong Lei on Tuesday.
