Hong Kong's constitutional development is a big step forward for its democratic progress and Taiwan should not point fingers at the central government's decisions, a mainland spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The recent acts in Hong Kong have seriously disrupted the city's social order, economic development and rule of law, and are raising resentment from more and more Hong Kong people, Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference.

Fan was responding to some Taiwanese' support of the Occupy Central movement in Hong Kong and their criticism of the mainland's political system.

"The Taiwan compatriots' choice on social system and lifestyle is respected by us (the mainland)... and we hope Taiwan will respect the choice and pursuit of the 1.3 billion people of the mainland," said Fan.

The peaceful development of mainland-Taiwan relations has been hard-earned and should be cherished. The Taiwan side should do more things that are good to the peaceful development trend, rather than the reverse, she said.

The spokeswoman also denounced Taiwanese authorities' invitation of the Dalai Lama, warning Dalai's visit to Taiwan will only damage mainland-Taiwan relations.
