China urges calm, restraint on Korean Peninsula

China has urged for calm and restraint on the Korean Peninsula in response to the latest round of provocative rhetoric coming from the DPRK. The DPRK has said its missiles are "ready to fire" and that it had "powerful striking means" on standby for a launch. China's Foreign Ministry has urged all the parties concerned not to take any steps that will further aggravatae the situation.

Hong Lei, Spokesman of China's Foreign Ministry, said, "China calls on all the parties concerned to comply with the will of the international community, and not to make moves that will fuel the tension, but instead, to take action to turn around the situation. All the parties should consider the long-term consequences and the overall situation, work towards the resumption of the six-party talks, strengthen dialogue and contact, push ahead with denuclearisation of the peninsula, and seek the long-term security and stability of the peninsula and of Northeast Asia."
