    No compromise on Party discipline

2012-09-29 16:22 Xinhua     Web Editor: Liu Xian comment

The decision to expel Bo Xilai from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and remove him from public office highlighted the Party's resolve of policing itself and its commitment to the rule of law.

Through Bo's case, a principle was upheld -- no matter how high the position a Party member holds and how influential he is, he will be held responsible and face severe punishment for violating Party disciplines and laws.

The decision is another example in showing the CPC's clear stance and firm determination to fight corruption. It will be welcomed by the people.

Bo's violations of Party disciplines are severe.

Investigations found that he abused his power, made severe mistakes and bore major responsibility in the Wang Lijun incident and the intentional homicide case of Bogu Kailai, his wife.

He took advantage of his office to seek profits for others and received huge bribes personally and through his family. His position was also abused by his wife to seek profits for others, and the Bo family accepted a huge amount of money and property from others.

Bo had or maintained improper sexual relationships with a number of women.

He was also found to have violated organizational and personnel disciplines and made erroneous decisions in the promotion of personnel, resulting in serious consequences.

Bo's behavior has yielded serious consequences, badly undermined the reputation of the Party and the country, created a very negative impact home and abroad and significantly damaged the cause of the Party and the people.

A high-level official like Bo should have been a role model in terms of abiding by Party discipline and strictly following the instructions from the CPC Central Committee.

However, he manipulated power, misbehaved himself and went his own way against rules and regulations. Facing severe punishment, he only had himself to blame.

The removal of Bo's CPC membership and his post from public office has proved the CPC's zero tolerance when it comes to those who choose privilege in front of Party disciplines.

According to the CPC Constitution, Party discipline refers to the rules of conduct that must be observed by Party organizations at all levels and by all members. It guarantees that the unity and solidarity of the Party are safeguarded and that the tasks of the Party are accomplished.

Party organizations must strictly observe and maintain Party discipline. A Communist Party member must conscientiously act within the bounds of Party discipline.

The CPC requires its members, the number of which has exceeded 80 million, to hold Party discipline in awe, and set examples for others to follow in observance.

They should observe political disciplines and be in line with the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as general secretary.

Party leaders, in particular, should exercise caution and refrain from any act beyond one's authorized power.

High-ranking officials should keep away from the delusion that they can be exempted from disciplinary actions and legal penalties because of high power and social influence.

Defiance of Party discipline and the rule of law only lead to serious scrutiny and punishment.
