China and Burundi have pledged to push forward bilateral ties as top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin met with Burundi's Senate Speaker Gabriel Ntisezerana Monday in Beijing.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China highly values developing its friendship with Burundi and will work with the African country to enhance bilateral ties.

Developing friendships with African countries is an important cornerstone of China's foreign policy, and also a long-term strategic choice the country will firmly stick to, Jia said. He added that China will work with African countries to push forward China-Africa ties.

The CPPCC will cement contacts with Burundi's Senate to promote exchanges and cooperation in areas such as strengthening democracy and the legal system and improving livelihoods, he said.

He also hailed the bilateral ties and congratulated Burundi on its 50th independence anniversary.

Ntisezerana expressed gratitude for China's support and assistance in its development, and said Burundi will make concerted efforts with China to deepen cooperation and the bilateral relations.
