The New York Chinese Scholar's Garden, or Jixing Yuan in Chinese, was opened to public in 1999, providing a place for people to enjoy the beauties of a Chinese classic garden. The garden is a dedicated work by a team of 40 Chinese artists and craftsmen, who spent a year in China creating the Garden's components and another six months in Staten Island as craftsmen-in-residence at Snug Harbor to complete the construction. In 2016, the Chinese Scholar's Garden received about 10,000 tourists, a quarter of them belonging to education tours. For this year, the garden's administration department projects an increase of tourists over the last year, especially for those school-aged coming here to learn about Chinese culture.
