A total of 2,020 Chinese sturgeons were released back into the Yangtze River, which is located in the city of Yichang, China's Hubei Province, on Sunday afternoon, April 24, 2016. The ancient Chinese fish is currently on the brink of extinction due to overfishing and new dams being built in the area. In the last ten years both scientists and civilians have been playing their part to help protect this rare and valuable creature. Every sturgeon has been fitted with a GPS wrist-band, which sends information back to scientists. This includes the fish's swimming routes, water temperatures and the amount of salt in the water. This key information will help scientists help monitor the species. (Photo: China News Service/ Liu Kang)
