March 14, 2011: The development of the new district around the Zhoushan Islands has officially been scheduled as part of China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). Plans forecast a world-class port on par with Singapore and Hong Kong, which would accelerate the economic development of the entire Yangtze River region.
