Traditionally, ice and snow sports in China were mostly enjoyed in the northeastern, northern, and northwestern regions. However, with the preparation and hosting of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, these sports have expanded geographically to the south, west, and east. They are now available year-round instead of only in winter, transitioning from a niche interest to a mainstream activity enjoyed by approximately 300 million people.
As the world's only "Dual Olympic City", Beijing has leveraged its capital city functions and fully utilized the legacy of the Winter Olympic Games, becoming a popular destination for ice and snow tourism and leisure for people worldwide, and it has transformed "ice and snow" into "invaluable assets".
