The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) kicked off in Beijing on Thursday.
Leaders of China and Africa will focus on the theme “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future” to celebrate friendship and chart the way forward for cooperation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a keynote speech to elaborate on the new ideas and propositions on building a high-level community with a shared future between China and Africa, and announce new actions and measures for practical cooperation with Africa.
The summit is expected to adopt two outcome documents: a Declaration and an Action Plan. These documents will uphold the Principles of Sincerity, Real results, Affinity, and Good faith, along with the spirit of China-Africa friendly cooperation.
Each document has its own focus: the Declaration aims to consolidate consensus on major issues such as modernization and building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future, while demonstrating the commitment of both sides to enhancing cooperation in global governance, peace and security, and trade. The Action Plan outlines the implementation path for high-quality China-Africa cooperation over the next three years, providing a clear direction for deepening future collaboration.
Since its establishment 24 years ago, especially in recent years, FOCAC has achieved remarkable results, becoming a “golden brand” of China-Africa cooperation and a leading example of international cooperation with Africa, as well as a key platform for deepening Global South cooperation.
In recent exchanges with African journalists and experts, many expressed that the friendship between Africa and China has deep roots and that the cooperation between the two sides is both genuine and pragmatic, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both regions.
China has always been Africa’s most reliable partner on the path to modernization.
They look forward to achieving more collaborations through this summit, jointly crafting a new blueprint for Africa-China cooperation in the new era, and continuing to deliver real benefits to the people of both regions.
