Sparkling 'blue tears' illuminate Pingtan island in China's Fujian

A natural phenomenon called "blue tears" illuminated the waters in the Pingtan island of east China's Fujian Province on Monday.　

The "blue tears,"　which usually occur between April to June, have attracted many onlookers.　

The natural phenomenon is caused by a tiny bioluminescent organism called dinoflagellates, a type of algae that glows when disturbed.
