Three leaders of a telecom fraud group operating in northern Myanmar have been captured and handed over to Chinese police on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
The three suspects, Ming Guoping, Ming Julan, and Ming Zhenzhen, were arrested under the China and Myanmar law enforcement cooperation agreement. They were among four individuals placed on a wanted list by the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang Province on Nov. 12.
The group, led by Ming Xuechang, the fourth one on the wanted list, is accused of organizing and operating telecom fraud schemes targeting Chinese citizens for an extended period. Despite intensified efforts by law enforcement to crack down on such activities, the group continued to organize and carry out illegal activities. The group members are suspected of serious violent crimes such as intentional homicide, intentional injury, and illegal detention.
The public security authorities will thoroughly investigate all illegal and criminal activities of the criminal group and deal with them in accordance with the law. The ministry said that the public security organs will maintain close scrutiny on telecom fraud in northern Myanmar, advance specialized law enforcement operations, and intensify efforts to apprehend key figures within fraud groups.
