Thousands of South Koreans, including politicians and more than 90 civic groups, continued a weekend rally in central Seoul on Saturday to protest against Japan's dumping of nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean and call for government action on Fukushima wastewater.
"The South Korean government did not take special measures, which indirectly helped Japan discharge nuclear-contaminated wastewater. It's an act of pushing pollution onto future generations," fishers attended the rally criticized.
The rally began at 4 p.m. on Saturday and lasted about an hour and a half, with about 50,000 people attending. Participants marched together to the vicinity of the Presidential Palace after the rally that day.
It was the second large-scale protest rally held by multiple opposition parties and civic groups in South Korea after Japan released nuclear-contaminated wastewater. A large-scale rally against the discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the sea was launched in Seoul on August 26.
