(100 great changes) Xiongan: A 'Millennial City' rising in north China

This is a national project of millennial significance. On April 1, 2017, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council jointly decided to establish Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province - another new area of national significance following Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area.

Xiongan, located in the hinterland of Beijing, Tianjin and Baoding cities, is composed of Xiongxian, Rongcheng and Anxin counties, as well as surrounding areas. It enjoys remarkable geographical advantages including accessible transportation, excellent eco-environment, and robust carrying capacity of resources.

Over the past five years, Xiongan has seen many institutions, enterprise headquarters, financial institutions, universities and research institutes relocating here. Now, Xiongan is focusing on relieving Beijing's non-capital functions, and exploring a new model to optimize the development of densely populated economic regions.

This is a "Smart City". Xiongan Urban Computing (Supercomputing Cloud) Center will serve as the "urban brain." Facilities such as driverless buses and laser detection radars were distributed across the city. Major progress was also made in fully automated farms.

This is also a "Green City". For the first time, China has fully applied 5G technology to Xiongan eco-environment, thus building a three-dimensional emergency monitoring system. Baiyangdian Lake has seen improvements in water quality and biodiversity. Moreover, multiple measures were taken to minimize and recycle solid waste, aiming to build a "waste-free city".

With global visions, international standards, Chinese characteristics, and future-oriented goals, Xiongan has presented its vigorous development potential over the past five years. Xiongan will pursue quality development in the ecological, economic and cultural fields, so as to build an immortal "Millennial City".
