South-to-North Water Diversion Project transfers over 8 billion cubic meters of water to Beijing

(ECNS) -- Tuancheng Lake, a terminal of the Beijing section of the Central Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, has played an important role in water transfer regulation and storage, as well as supplying water for river and lake systems.

According to Wang Junwen, deputy director of Beijing Water Resources Control Center, the Middle Route Project could supply one billion cubic meters of water to Beijing every year. As of the end of September 2022, Beijing has received more than eight billion cubic meters of river water.

The South-to-North Water Diversion Project has replaced the local water supply in Beijing, which has greatly changed the water resource situation. The reserve of Miyun Reservoir in Beijing has been rapidly restored, with the maximum storage capacity reaching 3.58 billion cubic meters as of October 2021, a new record since the establishment of the reservoir.
