Bruce Lee's daughter hit back against misappropriating the image of the Kung Fu superstar in a popular fast food chain in a Chinese court. The Second Intermediate People's Court of Shanghai heard the case on Thursday.
Bruce Lee Enterprises, whose legal representative is Shannon Lee, is seeking 210 million yuan ($30 million) in damages from the Real Kungfu chain. The company believes that it legally owns various rights and interests related to Bruce Lee, and has registered nearly 60 trademarks related to Bruce Lee in the Chinese mainland. The unauthorized use of Bruce Lee's portrait not only infringes on the personal dignity of Bruce Lee, but also infringes on the property interests.
The journalist failed to call Shanghai Real Kungfu Catering Management company on Thursday, and then contacted its headquarters. Regarding the case and whether the possibility of out-of-court settlement will be considered, the staff members were unclear and refused to respond.
Bruce Lee Enterprises LLC filed the 210 million Chinese yuan lawsuit against the Chinese fast-food chain Real Kungfu for misappropriating the kung fu star's image in December 2019.
