(ECNS) -- Located on the northern edge of the Taklimakan Desert, Shaya County in Aksu Prefecture is one of the largest cotton-producing areas in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
Farmers in Shaya County are using seeders with GNSS for spring sowing. The unmanned drivingseeder can realize simultaneous film laying, drip irrigation, sowing, and soil covering with high efficiency. With the seeder's help, cotton farmers only do some simple auxiliary work on the side.
With its mechanization rate reaching 93 percent, the county plants about 1.9 million mu (around 126,000 hectares) of cotton all year round and produces about 260,000 tons annually.
"We started planting on April 2 this year. Our cooperative owns more than 1,800 mu (around 120 hectares) of land, and it took only five days to plant. The machines help improve the efficiency of cotton cultivation," said local cotton farmer.
As China has launched a target-price subsidy policy for cotton and other beneficial policies, cotton farmers' income has continued to increase.
