Baidicheng, an ancient fortress and temple complex on a hill in Fengjie County, southwest China's Chongqing, is a tourist destination.
It sits at the west end of Three Gorges of Yangtze River.
The history of the relic site can be traced back to the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280),
when Liu Bei, the Shu Kingdom emperor retreated here and entrusted his son to prime minister Zhuge Liang.
"Leaving at dawn the White Emperor crowned with cloud; I've sailed a thousand miles through Gorges in a day. With monkeys' sad adieux the riverbanks are loud, My skiff has left ten thousand mountains far away," wrote the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, who made the spot a household name.
Famous poets including Li Bai and Du Fu, had once visited the destination and left many popular poems here.
