(ECNS) -- Numerous hilly areasand rivers scattered across the vast Hulunbuir Prairie in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region make it hard for vehicles to pass through, leading to slow policing. Therefore, a mounted police patrol was established by local Public Security Bureau in 2015.
Team members fell from their horses many times at first, sustaining numerous injuries. But they eventually conquered their spirited mounts.
The mounted police patrols the Prairie all year round. Policing was difficult in the past due to the complex terrain, but thanks to the new patrol, relationships have been established with local herdsmen.
The team has carried out security operations during more than 60 grassland events, with patrol mileage along the China-Russia border totaling over 5,000 kilometers since establishment. It has severely cracked down on illegal smuggling and other criminal activity along the border.
Meanwhile, it has solved more than 30 serious grassland disputes and various cases among herders, and organized over 200 voluntary rescue missions. It has also helped herders retrieve a large number of lost livestock.
The police force will train in a more professional way and absorb female members to provide better services for local herders, the patrol leader commented.
