(ECNS)--The MTR Corporation and AlipayHK have launched a QR Code payment service.
Passengers can pay for subway rides by scanning a QR Code at all 93 stations on the MTR.
Venetia Lee, general manager and head of Hong Kong, Taiwan %26 Macau, Alipay, said the payment service is expected to cover 80-90 percent of Hong Kong's public transportation by 2021.
Lee said digital payment would facilitate the connectivity of residents in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
AlipayHK's mobile wallet and payments app was launched in May 2017.
It now has about 2.7 million active users and 62,000 retailers supporting payment in Hong Kong.
