(ECNS) -- China successfully sent the Gravitational Wave High-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province to space at 4:14 a.m. (Beijing Time) on Thursday.

Consisting of two satellites, the GECAM carried by a Long March-11 rocket entered the scheduled orbit.

GECAM will begin its all-sky monitoring of high-energy celestial phenomena such as gamma-ray bursts and high-energy radiation of fast radio bursts.

GECAM will study neutron stars, black holes and other compact objects and unveil their merging processes as well.
