(ECNS) --The Xin'an River Reservoir is an important flood control project in the upper reaches of the Qiantang River.
Due to heavy downpours in the upstream Anhui province, the water level rose rapidly and had exceeded the warning line.
The reservoir opened all its nine spillways for the first time on Wednesday to release floodwaters since it was built in the 1950s.
